Celebrating the Legacy of Mother Mary Angela

Blessed Mother Mary Angela Truszkowska celebrated her 201st birthday on May 16. Sr. Barbara was invited to the monthly birthday celebration today to share the history of Mother Mary Angela, foundress of the Felician Sisters and patron of Bangor Nursing and Rehab. Mother Mary Angela was established as the patron of BNRC in the spring of 2024 for her connection with St. Joseph Hospital and her inspiring legacy of caring for vulnerable people. Mother Angela was born in Poland in 1825; she was sick as a child and spent time alone, where she developed a deeper connection with God. She was passionate about caring for women and children displaced from war. She inspired friends and relatives to work with her in caring for the most vulnerable in her city, who later became known as the Felician Sisters. Their work spread across Poland and to the United States, eventually expanding to Bangor, Maine. Residents and family members enjoyed learning more about Mother Mary Angela and the Felician Sisters. Sr. Barbara gifted a portrait of Mother Mary Angela to BNRC President Janet Hope to be displayed in the entryway of the building to serve as an inspirational reminder of the important work done here each day.
